The work entitled "Changes of functional response in sensorimotor cortex of preterm and full-term infants during the first year: an fNIRS study," by Suelen Oliveira et al. has just been published on Early Human Development.
This work, a collaborative effort between our lab and the Molecular Medicine INCT at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Belo Horizonte (Brazil), aimed to study the development of the sensorimotor cortex in babies during the first year of life. Suelen and the team analyzed how the brain of preterm babies evolved compared to full-term babies, both at 6 and 12 months-old. This is an important study because it is well known that preterm babies have deficits due to early birth. This study shows that our optical technique can see these changes and quantify them.
Congratulations to Suelen and all the team!
